Goiânia legislator proposes security consortia for Goiás municipalities

Romário Policarpo, president of the Goiânia Chamber, has proposed a bill to allow municipalities in Goiás to form consortia to expand the presence of Municipal Guards. The initiative aims to strengthen public security in the state's interior by enabling smaller towns that lack the financial resources to maintain their own security forces to pool funds and resources with neighboring cities.

While federal legislation allows for inter-municipal consortia, Policarpo notes that there is currently no specific regulation for this in Goiás. He intends to implement the first such consortium in the Goiânia Metropolitan Region, which includes 21 municipalities. Currently, only the capital, Aparecida de Goiânia, and Senador Canedo have active municipal guards. The proposal also identifies the Entorno do Distrito Federal region as a high-potential area for such a security partnership.
