Goiânia motorcycle accident leaves one dead and one critical

A 50-year-old woman, Neifa Freitas de Farias Alves, has died following a motorcycle accident in Goiânia. She had been hospitalized in critical condition for five days after being struck by a pickup truck at a crossing involving Avenida Perimetral Norte and Avenida Campinas.

According to police reports, the vehicle, a Fiat Toro, was driven by a 17-year-old who ran a red light. A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver showed a level of 0.52 mg/L of alcohol, indicating intoxication. The teenager was initially detained for an infraction but was later released to a legal guardian under commitment to the Public Ministry and the Court of Childhood and Youth.

The victim's husband, Fábio Alves Barbosa, also 50, remains in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit. He has undergone major surgeries for injuries including an exposed knee fracture and has faced complications with renal function requiring hemodialysis.

Following the confirmation of brain death, the family announced that Neifa's organs will be donated.
