Goiânia worker hospitalized after ammonia leak
An ammonia leak occurred at an ice production facility in Goiânia on Friday, October 9, 2026, after a worker accidentally struck a refrigeration machine pipe. According to the Military Firefighters Corps of Goiás (CBMGO), the incident happened while a worker was installing exhaust equipment; the ladder they were using gave way and hit the piping, causing it to rupture.
Two workers were present during the accident. One individual inhaled the ammonia, resulting in respiratory difficulties and intense eye irritation. After receiving initial treatment from firefighters, the worker was transported to the CAIS hospital in Campinas.
Specialized teams managed the leak by closing the machine's main valve. While the surrounding public roads were reopened after the area was ventilated, the establishment remained isolated. The owner was instructed to maintain the isolation for at least one hour and to ensure that repairs are conducted exclusively by a specialized maintenance company.
