Industrial ammonia accidents in Goiás, Brazil
Overview
In October 2026, two separate industrial accidents involving ammonia exposure were reported in the state of Goiás, Brazil.
On October 9, an ammonia leak occurred at an ice production facility in Goiânia after a worker accidentally struck a refrigeration pipe while installing exhaust equipment. One worker suffered respiratory difficulties and eye irritation and was transported to a hospital in Campinas. Specialized teams managed the leak by closing the main valve.
On October 13, a 42-year-old worker was rescued following suspected ammonia exposure at a meatpacking plant in Jataí. The individual became unresponsive during maintenance work inside a tunnel.
