Goiás Governor announces new women's hospital and healthcare expansion

Governor Daniel Vilela has announced a major healthcare project in Goiás to transform the current Hospital de Urgências de Goiás Dr. Valdemiro Cruz (Hugo) into a specialized women's hospital. The proposed facility will be a SUS-funded complex focusing on gynecology, obstetrics, and maternity care, including services for high-risk pregnancies.

To facilitate the renovation, the government plans to transfer Hugo's current services to a new structure in Conjunto Fabiana by January 2027. Once the renovation is complete, the new emergency facility is expected to feature over 400 beds, approximately 90 ICU vacancies, and 20 surgical rooms, nearly doubling its current capacity.

Additionally, the governor announced plans to expand the Complexo Oncológico de Referência do Estado de Goiás (Cora) with a new unit dedicated to adult oncology treatment. Project designs for the oncology expansion are expected to be finalized by the end of 2026.
