Goiás Governor Daniel Vilela launches $150 million Heapa hospital expansion

Governor Daniel Vilela announced a R$150 million renovation and expansion of the Hospital Estadual de Aparecida de Goiânia (Heapa). The project will double the building area to 11,915 m², increase beds from 71 to 124, double ICU capacity to 20 beds, and expand surgical suites from four to eight rooms. New high‑technology equipment, a magnet‑resonance scanner, a CT scanner and a realistic simulation lab will be added, aiming to serve more than 1.12 million residents of 53 municipalities.

Mayor Sandro Mabel also revealed the start of construction for a new Unidade de Pronto Atendimento (UPA) in the Campinas region of Goiânia, funded with about R$18 million for the building and R$8.5 million for equipment. The 4,000 m² facility, part of a broader plan to add eight UPAs and up to 30 health centers, is expected to be completed in roughly 14 months and to increase emergency attendances by over 100 thousand per month. "Além de aumentar as unidades de pronto‑socorro, vamos também fazer de 20 a 30 UBSs," Mabel said.
