Goiás Governor Daniel Vilela Wins Security Package and Seeks Vice‑President as Election Approaches

The Goiás State Assembly approved all 21 proposals submitted by Governor Daniel Vilela’s administration, including a 15‑measure package to reform the state’s public‑security forces such as the Military Police, Civil Police, Scientific Police and Fire Corps. The legislation was passed in two days on 26 June and now awaits the governor’s signature and the upcoming vote on the Budget Guidelines Law.

Former governor and presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado praised Vilela’s record at a regional political meeting, highlighting achievements in education, safety, technology and infrastructure, and urged supporters to back Vilela’s re‑election in the first round of the 4 October federal elections.

Party insiders said a convention on 5 August will select Vilela’s running‑mate. Names floated include Adriano da Rocha Lima, José Mário Schreiner, Luiz Carlos do Carmo and Assembly President Bruno Peixoto, with Caiado reportedly favoring Lima. Electoral forecasts also list federal deputy candidates Silvye Alves and Bruno Peixoto as leading vote‑getters in Goiás.
