Goiás sees growth in poultry slaughter and frozen meal demand

The state of Goiás is experiencing significant shifts in its food and agricultural sectors. In the poultry industry, IBGE data shows a 7.1% increase in chicken slaughtering between January and March 2026, with the total carcass weight rising by 10.5%. Goiás remains the fifth-largest producer in Brazil, contributing 7.9% of the national flock. Additionally, poultry exports from the state reached US$ 370.5 million in the first seven months of 2026, driven by high demand from China, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates.

Simultaneously, the consumer market for frozen meals is expanding. In Goiás, orders for frozen meals grew by 25.2% in the first half of 2026, significantly outpacing the national average of 13%. This trend is linked to changing dietary habits, potentially influenced by the use of GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy, which encourage smaller portions and higher protein intake. The Brazilian frozen food sector is projected to reach US$ 7.8 billion by 2034.

On a broader scale, the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras) maintains a 3.2% growth projection for household consumption in 2026. While the accessibility of weight-loss medications is altering spending patterns—shifting budgets from dining out toward quality-of-life products—the overall impact on the average supermarket ticket remains limited.
