NTT Docomo expands 5G smart city and digital services in Japan

5G smart city millimeter wave targeted advertising data management digital infrastructure

NTT Docomo is advancing several technological and infrastructure initiatives in Japan. The company has partnered with Mitsubishi Estate Corporation to develop a next-generation 5G smart city in Tokyo’s Marunouchi, Otemachi, and Yurakucho districts. This project utilizes millimeter-wave (26GHz) spectrum, Tri-Band Massive MIMO, and glass antennas to provide high-quality, low-latency communication while integrating infrastructure into the urban landscape.

In the marketing sector, NTT Docomo, DAZN Japan, and CARTA ZERO have launched a high-precision targeted advertising solution. By leveraging data from over 100 million d-point club members, the service allows for highly accurate ad delivery to DAZN viewers, including the ability to analyze post-ad behavioral changes such as store visits and purchases.

Additionally, NTT Docomo is implementing new security and data management protocols. The company is introducing IC chip reading for identity verification at Docomo shops to prevent fraudulent contracts using forged documents. Internally, the company is transitioning to a self-service data management model, moving away from centralized control to allow individual departments to manage and publish their own data via a Snowflake-based platform to improve efficiency and data quality.
