Turkey economic data shows rising construction costs and gold investment gains

Data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) reveals significant shifts in Turkey's economic indicators for 2026. In July, the construction cost index rose by 1.15% monthly and 28.33% annually. Within this sector, labor costs saw a higher annual increase of 30.51% compared to a 27.13% increase in material costs.

Regarding financial investments in August, gold bullion emerged as the top performer. When adjusted for the Consumer Price Index (CPI), gold provided a monthly real return of 7.93%, and an annual real return of 16.49%. When adjusted for the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI), its monthly real return was 7.17% and its annual return was 19.73%.

Other investment performance metrics include: • Three-month period: Government domestic debt securities (GDDS) led with the highest real returns. • Six-month period: Gross deposit interest provided the highest real return, while gold recorded the largest real loss. • Negative performers: The BIST 100 index and the US dollar both saw real losses in various monthly and annual assessments.

Additionally, silver showed exceptional performance outside of TÜİK's specific calculations, with a monthly nominal increase of approximately 17.9% in August.
