Overview
Inflation in Turkey continues to trend lower from its 2022 peak yet remains in the high double‑digit range. The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) kept its policy rate at 37 % and reaffirmed an interim 2026 year‑end inflation target of 24 %, while projecting 15 % by end‑2027 and 9 % by end‑2028.
Industrial production in May 2026 showed virtually no year‑on‑year growth and a 2.9 % month‑on‑month decline, driven by a 12.7 % drop in capital‑goods output and an 11.5 % fall in mid‑high‑technology production. High‑technology output rose 7.9 % YoY but its contribution to total output remains limited.
Consumer‑facing data highlighted persistent pressure. The Shopping Centres and Investors Association reported a 3.15 % YoY fall in the June visitor index, an 11.53 % slide from May – the weakest June performance in four years – and an 8.5 % real‑terms revenue decline as inflation ran at 32.11 %. Nominal per‑square‑metre revenue rose 20.9 %.
Food prices accelerated sharply in July 2026, with annual food inflation reaching 32.8 % after a 0.93 % monthly increase. Prices surged for fresh peppers, dried onion, bakery items and soft drinks, while watermelon, fresh beans, cucumber, chicken and eggs fell.
July confidence indexes showed modest sectoral shifts: services confidence up 1.4 %, construction up 0.6 %, and retail trade down 1.6 %. Analysts stress that sustained lower rates and credible, trust‑building policies are needed to revive production, investment and broader economic confidence.
