Golden Ears Provincial Park graffiti investigation

Maple Ridge RCMP are investigating an incident of mischief involving graffiti at the Lower Falls trail in Golden Ears Provincial Park. The incident, which reportedly involved an unknown male spray-painting a message on boulders near Gold Creek, appears to be an attempt to memorialize a person who recently drowned in the area.

While acknowledging the intent behind the act, police stated that vandalism within a protected area remains a criminal offence. Authorities noted that such actions can harm the environment, negatively impact other park users, and result in cleanup costs for the community. RCMP expressed sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased, while encouraging those wishing to pay respects to do so through legal and appropriate means.

Officers are currently working with BC Parks staff to identify the individual involved. Police have requested that anyone with information contact the Maple Ridge RCMP regarding file# 2026-15782.
