Russian strike sinks bulk carrier Golden Leo off Odessa FAST-MOVING
The Russian Ministry of Defence announced that its forces struck Ukrainian ports, targeting the cargo terminal at Chornomorsk near Odessa and claiming the terminal handled military cargo. A bulk carrier flying the Guinea‑Bissau flag, the Golden Leo, was hit by missiles on 19 July while transiting south of Odessa. The ship, which had departed Chornomorsk carrying a bulk cargo of Arab coffee, suffered severe damage and sank in the open sea off Odessa on 26 July.
Ukrainian maritime authorities reported that nine members of the crew were killed and eight were rescued. Moscow did not comment on the sinking. The incident is part of a broader Russian campaign against Ukrainian port infrastructure and commercial shipping in the Black Sea.
