Kathryn Ruemmler Testifies Before House Oversight Committee on Jeffrey Epstein Ties

Former White House counsel and ex‑Goldman Sachs general counsel Kathryn Ruemmler appeared before the House Oversight Committee to answer bipartisan questions about her long‑standing contacts with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Ruemmler, who stepped down as Goldman’s chief legal officer in February 2026 but remains a senior adviser, said it was “a mistake to deal with Epstein” and described him as a “masterful liar.” She asserted she never saw evidence of ongoing criminal conduct and would have reported any abuse to law‑enforcement.

Committee members, including Chairman James Comer and Rep. Robert Garcia, challenged her credibility, citing thousands of Justice Department‑released emails, gifts, and references in which she called Epstein “Uncle Jeffrey” and appeared to help rehabilitate his public image. Lawmakers noted her attempts to distance herself from Epstein while evidence showed regular communications from 2014 to 2019. The hearing is part of a broader congressional probe that has already heard from more than a dozen high‑profile witnesses about Epstein’s network of powerful contacts.
