Goldman Sachs senior counsel Kathryn Ruemmler to testify before US House panel on Epstein ties

Kathryn Ruemmler, senior counsel at Goldman Sachs, will appear before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Wednesday to answer questions about her relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Ru­emmler stepped down as chief legal officer at the end of June after Justice Department documents showed she accepted gifts from Epstein and maintained extensive communications with him from 2014 to 2019, including advising him on media inquiries. She will remain in an advisory role pending the appointment of a new chief legal officer.

Lawmakers such as Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Sen. Elizabeth Warren criticised Goldman for retaining Ruemmler, saying the firm failed proper due‑diligence. The committee is investigating Epstein’s network and the federal government’s handling of his case.

Goldman Sachs declined comment. Ruemmler’s spokesperson said she did nothing wrong and was unaware of any criminal activity when interacting with Epstein, who died in prison in 2019.
