Goldman Sachs urged to sever ties with former counsel after Epstein testimony

Rep. Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon demanding that the firm cut all remaining ties with former general counsel Kathryn Ruemmler. Garcia described Ruemller’s July 15 testimony before the committee about Jeffrey Epstein as “nothing short of shocking” and criticized her remarks regarding victim Virginia Giuffre. He gave Goldman until Aug. 21 to respond and asked that the bank replace Ruemller with a general counsel who has no connections to Epstein or his convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. Ruemller, who stepped down as general counsel in June but stayed on as a senior counselor, defended her testimony, saying she had no knowledge of ongoing criminal activity and could not confirm Giuffre’s victim status. The request is part of a broader congressional inquiry into Goldman’s handling of the Epstein scandal.
