Gomoa land disputes leave three dead in Ghana

A violent land dispute in Ghana’s Central Region has resulted in three deaths and numerous injuries. The clashes, centered around disputed boundaries in the Gomoa-Effutu area, involved the use of guns and cutlasses between rival factions.

Kwame Asare Obeng, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has intervened in the situation, stating that he has tracked down and arrested one of the key suspects involved in the violence. He emphasized that those responsible for the mayhem will face legal consequences.

Journalist Kwesi Pratt has criticized the nature of these conflicts, noting that the individuals who suffer the physical consequences and deaths are often those with no direct financial stake in the land. Pratt called for investigations to expand beyond the immediate participants to identify the ‘big people’ and financiers who supply the expensive weapons used during such disturbances.
