Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) manages internal shifts and electricity audit demands

The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) is navigating several internal and external developments. Within the party, Gonzalo Castillo has gained significant momentum, receiving formal endorsements from former presidential aspirants Luis de León, Charlie Mariotti, and Mario Bruno, who have withdrawn their candidacies to unify behind his project for 2028.

In the legislative sphere, PLD deputies, led by Oscar Morel, are demanding an independent technical audit of electricity distribution companies (EDE). The request follows numerous consumer complaints regarding sudden increases in electricity bills. Morel cited data from the Electricity Consumer Protection Office (PROTECOM) showing thousands of claims, many of which were ruled in favor of users.

On the diplomatic front, presidential aspirant Francisco Javier García met with U.S. Ambassador Leah Campos. García praised her management, noting her commitment to democratic dialogue and the strengthening of relations between the United States and the Dominican Republic.

Additionally, Manfred Mata has criticized the municipal administration in Puerto Plata, describing the local government as dysfunctional and warning that the deterioration of services could negatively impact the tourism sector.
