Goodluck Jonathan urges stronger, independent judiciary in Nigeria

Former President Goodluck Jonathan addressed the opening ceremony of the 2026 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Yenagoa Branch in Bayelsa State. He stressed that Nigeria’s future depends on strong institutions, an impartial judiciary and adherence to the rule of law.

Jonathan urged lawyers and judges to act as custodians of justice, calling for fairness, independent courts and equal protection for both powerful and vulnerable citizens. He also highlighted the need for education reforms to meet contemporary challenges and support sustainable national development.
