Google adds AI-powered travel booking and price tracking
Google has introduced three new travel-related features within its AI Mode in Search to streamline trip planning. These updates allow users to manage flights and hotels through a conversational interface.
First, the platform now supports flight price tracking. Users can describe their desired route and dates, and the AI will monitor fares from over 300 partner airlines and travel sites, sending email alerts when prices change. This feature is available in more than 180 countries.
Second, AI Mode can now display the cost of flights and hotel stays in loyalty points or miles. Initial support includes programs such as American Airlines AAdvantage, Alaska Airlines, Hilton Honors, Choice Privileges, and Wyndham Rewards, with more partners like Accor and Hyatt expected soon.
Third, Google has launched hotel booking capabilities in the United States. Users can chat about their preferences to receive a list of properties with reviews and then complete bookings using Google Pay via the ‘Continue on Google’ option. While Google facilitates the discovery and checkout, the participating hotel or booking platform remains the merchant of record and handles all customer service.
