Google Analytics 4 adds native AI Assistant traffic channel
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is introducing a native AI Assistant channel to its Default Channel Group, effective May 13, 2026. This update allows marketers to identify traffic from recognized AI tools—including ChatGPT, Gemini, Deepseek, Copilot, and Grok—within standard acquisition reporting. Previously, isolating this traffic required manual, regex-based custom channel definitions.
While GA4 provides this native grouping, BrightEdge Analytics Reporting offers more granular visibility. BrightEdge separates AI traffic by individual engines, page groups, and specific pages, allowing businesses to see exactly which AI source favors which content. It also provides benchmarking to compare AI-sourced visitors against Organic, Paid, Direct, and Social channels to determine engagement and conversion shifts.
