Google and Meta update cryptocurrency advertising policies
Google has implemented updated cryptocurrency advertising rules for the United Arab Emirates, effective October 21. Under these new guidelines, crypto exchanges and software wallet providers can target users in the UAE provided they hold a license from one of four recognized regulators, including Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), and obtain specific certification from Google.
While these updates facilitate regulated advertising in the UAE, both Google and Meta’s current policies do not include Pakistan or its regulatory body, PVARA, on their lists of approved markets or licenses. Google’s policy explicitly states that cryptocurrencies and related products cannot be advertised if the targeted location is not on its approved list. Meta maintains a similar requirement for prior written permission and accepts specific national licenses, which currently include jurisdictions such as Singapore, Japan, and the UK, but exclude Pakistan.
