Google Android apps change: YouTube support ends on older phones, Chrome bug fixed on tablets
Google announced that the pre‑installed YouTube app will cease to function on devices running Android 6 Marshmallow. Phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, OnePlus X and Sony Xperia Z3 will display a warning when the app is opened, and users will need to access YouTube through a web browser instead. The lack of updates also means these devices will no longer receive security patches, prompting recommendations to upgrade to newer hardware.
Separately, Google is preparing an update for Chrome on Android tablets that resolves a persistent picture‑in‑picture audio bug. Previously, closing a PiP video window left the sound playing in the background, requiring manual muting. The forthcoming fix will automatically stop audio when the PiP window is dismissed, aligning tablet behavior with that of smartphones.
