Google developing next-gen TV Streamer with microphones and AI

Google is reportedly developing a next-generation Google TV Streamer that introduces several hardware and functional upgrades. According to sources familiar with the matter, the new device will maintain a similar pill-shaped design but will feature a narrower, more compact footprint.

Key anticipated upgrades include the integration of far-field microphones directly into the unit, allowing for hands-free voice commands via “Hey Google” and interaction with Google Gemini without needing a remote. The device is also expected to include presence sensing technology, similar to features used by TCL, which can trigger a Google Photos screensaver or display ambient information like weather and time when someone enters the room.

Internal specifications are rumored to include a faster processor and increased storage capacity beyond the 32GB offered by the current model. The accompanying remote is expected to remain largely the same but will add two additional shortcut buttons alongside the existing Netflix and YouTube keys. A launch date and official pricing have not yet been announced.
