Google Ends Android 6 Support, Causing YouTube to Fail on Older Devices

Google has stopped providing Google Play Services updates for devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which was released in 2015. Without these services, essential functions such as account authentication, location, push notifications, and security checks are unavailable, leading the YouTube app to block access on affected phones. Users are prompted to switch to the mobile web version, and devices must run Android 7.0 Nougat or newer to retain full YouTube functionality.

Common YouTube problems on tablets and older phones also stem from weak internet connections, outdated app versions, insufficient storage, or corrupted cache data. Recommended fixes include verifying a stable Wi‑Fi or data link, updating the YouTube app via the Play Store, clearing the app’s cache and data, freeing up device storage, and, when necessary, using the YouTube website in a browser.
