Google ends support for Android Marshmallow and raises app minimum OS

Google Android support Marshmallow Play services app updates

Google announced that several of its core Android apps and services will no longer support older versions of the operating system. YouTube now requires Android 10 or newer, the Google app requires Android 11 or newer, and Gmail requires Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later. In addition, Google Play services has increased its minimum requirement from Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) to Android 7.0.

Devices still running Android 6.0 or earlier will continue to function for basic tasks, but they will stop receiving updates for these apps and services. Over time this can lead to missing features, security patches, and reduced compatibility with newer applications, potentially affecting millions of users who rely on older Android phones and tablets.
