Google announces Fitbit Edge fitness tracker

Google has announced the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker priced at $179.99, scheduled for release on October 27, 2026. Positioned as a successor to the Fitbit Charge 6, the device aims to provide advanced health tracking without the full complexity of a smartwatch like the Pixel Watch 5.

The Fitbit Edge features a 1.34-inch AMOLED touchscreen, offering a larger viewing area than previous models. Key technical specifications include built-in GPS, an altimeter, Google Maps support, and a battery life of up to seven days, though using the always-on display reduces this to approximately two days. Notably, the device includes a replaceable battery, a first for Fitbit.

While the Edge offers improved interaction via its screen and a mechanical button, it lacks certain smartwatch features such as contactless payments and the ability to answer calls directly from the wrist. It sits between the screenless Fitbit Air, which relies on the Google Health app for interaction, and the more robust Pixel Watch 5.
