Google Fitbit Edge fitness tracker launches with repairable design

Google has introduced the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker positioned between the screenless Fitbit Air and the more advanced Pixel Watch 5. Scheduled for release on October 27, 2026, the device is priced at approximately $179.99.

The Fitbit Edge features a 1.34-inch Hybrid OLED display designed for high visibility in direct sunlight, offering 46% more viewing area than previous models. It is housed in a slim, 11.5mm recycled aluminum chassis and includes a redesigned physical side button for tactile control during workouts.

Key technical upgrades include integrated GPS with improved accuracy, a barometric altimeter for elevation tracking, and support for over 50 exercise modes. Notably, Google has marketed the Edge as its first repairable fitness tracker, featuring a modular architecture and a user-replaceable battery to extend device longevity.

While the device offers up to seven days of battery life and fast charging, it lacks NFC support for contactless payments, a decision Google attributes to prioritizing features like the altimeter. The tracker is compatible with both iOS and Android and integrates with Google Health services, though some advanced coaching features require a premium subscription.
