Google integrates YouTube video support into Android Auto
Google is introducing native YouTube video support to Android Auto, eliminating the need for third-party sideloaded applications. The feature allows users to watch videos directly on the vehicle's infotainment screen, provided the vehicle is stationary. Video playback supports up to Full HD at 60 fps.
To ensure safety, the system automatically switches to audio-only mode when the vehicle is put into gear. This seamless transition from video to background audio is a feature reserved for YouTube Premium subscribers.
The update also includes a significant visual overhaul using the Material You Expressive design language. This brings smoother animations, customizable fonts, selectable backgrounds, and configurable summary widgets to the interface, marking its most substantial aesthetic update since the 2022 Coolwalk release.
