Google launches Pixel 11 series and opens Tokyo flagship store

Several major developments occurred in the Japanese mobile and technology sectors during mid-August 2026. Google announced the launch of the Pixel 11 series, with pre-orders beginning and a release date set for August 20. Accompanying products include the Pixel Watch 5 and the Google Pixel Tag. Additionally, Google opened its first flagship retail store outside the United States in Omotesando, Tokyo.

In the smartphone market, OPPO announced the Reno16 5G, scheduled for release on August 17. The device features a 6.3-inch OLED display, a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC, and a 6,700mAh battery.

Regarding telecommunications, KDDI announced it will largely end its au network roaming services for Rakuten Mobile by the end of September 2026. However, Rakuten Mobile indicated that roaming will continue in certain rural areas where coverage is still being established. Meanwhile, NTT Docomo has reached an agreement with Starlink Japan to expand the capabilities of its 'docomo Starlink Direct' satellite-to-smartphone service.
