Google Maps and Waze add new Android Auto navigation features

Google Maps and Waze continue to complement each other for drivers. Waze relies on a community of users to report accidents, police presence and other road hazards, allowing it to reroute aggressively and save time during traffic jams. Google Maps focuses on broader navigation needs, offering detailed points of interest, offline maps and pedestrian directions, making it more useful once the driver parks.

Both apps are integrated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, letting users switch between them depending on the situation. Google Maps is also restoring the visual display of the vehicle's current speed in Android Auto, a feature that had been removed some years ago. The speed readout will appear alongside the posted speed limit, providing an additional reference for drivers.
