Google Maps adds Gemini AI integration, immersive navigation and offline maps

Google is expanding Google Maps with several new features. The service will integrate Gemini’s Personal Intelligence, allowing the app to pull data from the user’s Google account—such as flights, hotel reservations, contacts, Gmail, Photos, Calendar, Drive, Search and YouTube—and surface that information in the Ask Maps interface for more personalised travel queries. The rollout also includes the wider release of Immersive Navigation, which gives 3‑D‑style map rendering and clearer turn instructions, and a tachymeter for Android Auto, moving these functions from beta builds to the stable version for more users. In addition, the existing offline‑maps capability lets users download map areas beforehand and navigate without an Internet connection, reducing mobile‑data usage.

These updates are being delivered globally and are part of Google’s broader effort to make Maps a more intelligent, data‑rich navigation assistant.
