Google Messages RCS fails for some Samsung Galaxy users
Users of Google Messages are reporting issues with Rich Communication Services (RCS) functionality, particularly when switching to new Samsung Galaxy devices. Affected users have noted an “error 3100” message, which Google describes as “Trouble connecting. Awaiting retry.”
The issue appears linked to device upgrades or carrier changes. Some reports suggest that Samsung’s Smart Switch tool may be the cause, potentially by transferring corrupted cache files during the data migration process. While Google has recommended troubleshooting steps—such as toggling RCS off, clearing data for Carrier Services, and restarting the device—users have reported inconsistent results.
Some users have found success by performing a fresh setup of their new device without using Smart Switch, or by deactivating RCS on their old device before completing the setup on the new one.
