Google Pixel 11 introduces Camera Looks feature

Google has introduced ‘Camera Looks’ in its new Pixel 11 smartphone lineup, a feature designed to address consumer interest in vintage and retro photography aesthetics. Unlike standard post-capture filters, this tool integrates directly into the image processing pipeline at the moment of capture, allowing users to set specific visual styles before taking a photo.

The system includes four base styles—Original, Natural, Shadows, and Vanilla—alongside six additional presets: Editorial, Velvet, Classic, Digi, Black Tie, and Minimal. The ‘Digi’ preset is specifically tailored to the digital camera trend, replicating the lo-fi, blown dynamic range characteristic of early 2000s compact cameras. Users can manually fine-tune settings such as contrast, highlights, shadows, vibrance, warmth, and grain for each style.

This update represents a shift in Google’s computational photography approach, offering an alternative to the highly processed, high-HDR look that has characterized previous Pixel generations. The Pixel 11 Pro XL also features an upgraded 5x telephoto camera with a larger sensor to complement these software capabilities.
