Google Pixel 11 to introduce natural photo rendering

Google is addressing long-standing criticisms regarding the artificial appearance of Pixel smartphone photography with the upcoming Pixel 11. Historically, the Pixel series has been known for aggressive HDR processing that merges multiple shots to balance shadows and highlights. While this provides high detail, users have frequently complained that the results look overly smooth, plastic, or like digital paintings, often losing natural contrast and depth.

To combat this, Google is introducing a new feature called ‘Camera Looks’. This function aims to provide a more natural photographic rendering by reducing the aggressive flattening effect caused by current image fusion algorithms. The goal is to allow for more realistic textures and lighting, helping to reconcile the brand's computational power with the aesthetic preferences of photographers who seek a less processed look.
