Google reduces Play Store fees to 10% for developers on new app installs

Google announced that, effective June 30, its service fee on the Play Store will drop to 10% of a developer’s first $1 million in app‑transaction revenue for new app installs in the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. A new 5% billing fee will apply when Google processes payments, but developers can now direct users to their own websites for in‑app purchases, potentially cutting costs further.

Developers earning more than $1 million will see additional breaks: the existing 30% fee on revenue above that threshold falls to 20% for new‑install transactions and to 10% for auto‑renewing subscriptions. The changes follow a 2024 antitrust ruling and a settlement that also requires Google to permit third‑party app stores. Google also announced upcoming identity‑verification steps that will impose a 24‑hour waiting period on sideloaded apps from unverified developers in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, with broader rollout planned later.
