Google releases Android Auto update to fix connection freezes

Google has released Android Auto version 17.4 to address widespread reports of the application freezing or disconnecting unexpectedly during use. The issue, which surfaced around version 17.1, affected various Android devices, including Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models, across both wired and wireless connections.

While the app update resolves many stability issues, a separate problem has been identified affecting Pixel 10 users in certain vehicles. This specific conflict involves the head unit firmware in Volkswagen Group vehicles, including brands such as Skoda, SEAT, and Volkswagen. For these users, a simple app update via the Google Play Store is insufficient; instead, they must visit an authorized dealer to receive a firmware update for the vehicle’s multimedia system.

Additionally, Google is rolling out a speedometer feature within Google Maps for Android Auto, providing drivers with a real-time speed indicator on the interface.
