Google unveils Fitbit Edge fitness tracker with OLED display
Google has officially announced the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker designed to bridge the gap between the screenless Fitbit Air and the high-end Pixel Watch 5. Priced at $179.99, the device features a 1.34-inch AMOLED hybrid display with always-on support, offering 46% more viewing area than previous Fitbit trackers.
The Edge is built with a recycled aluminum casing and includes a physical side button for easier navigation during workouts. Key technical specifications include integrated GPS with improved accuracy, an altimeter, and support for over 50 exercise modes and automatic recognition of up to 100 activities. It is water-resistant up to 50 meters and, notably, is the first Fitbit device to feature a replaceable battery.
Health monitoring is a central focus, with the device supporting ECG readings, blood oxygen (SpO2) tracking, skin temperature, and sleep analysis. It also introduces the 'Health Guardian' feature to monitor trends in blood pressure and insulin resistance. Advanced AI-driven features, such as the Gemini-powered Google Health Coach, are available through a Google Health Premium subscription. The device is available for preorder now, with a retail launch scheduled for October 27.
