Google to discontinue Gmail features for external email accounts

Google has confirmed that it will discontinue several features in Gmail by January 2027 that allow users to integrate and manage external email accounts. The move is intended to reduce the maintenance of legacy integration functions between different service providers.

The affected features include Gmailify, which applies Gmail functions to external accounts; the ability to check emails from other providers via POP in the web version; and the ‘Send mail as’ feature for non-Google addresses.

Users who only use @gmail.com addresses will not be affected. The changes primarily impact individuals or professionals who have consolidated multiple external accounts, such as Yahoo or Outlook, into a single Gmail inbox.
