Google Gmail third-party integration discontinuation

Overview

Google has announced plans to discontinue several Gmail features that allow for the integration and management of third-party email accounts by January 2027.

The affected functionalities include the ‘Send mail as’ feature, which permits sending messages via external addresses like Outlook or Yahoo, and the ‘Gmailify’ service that applies Gmail-specific tools to non-Google accounts. Additionally, Google will end support for fetching messages from external accounts via POP in the web version.

Google stated the decision is intended to reduce the maintenance of legacy integration functions and to support long-term efforts to keep Gmail secure and easy to use. The changes will not affect Google Workspace aliases or users who exclusively use @gmail.com addresses.
