Google to launch Googlebook notebooks and new Android OS

Google has announced a launch event scheduled for September 15, 2026, in New York, to unveil its new line of notebooks known as Googlebooks. This new product category aims to compete in the notebook market by utilizing a new desktop version of Android, which is expected to replace ChromeOS.

The new operating system, previously rumored to be called Aluminum OS, will leverage the Android technology stack to create a hybrid experience between ChromeOS and Android. The initial product rollout will focus on the premium hardware segment, though lower-priced models are expected in the future.

Several original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are confirmed to be working on Googlebook models. Early hardware partners include Asus, HP, Lenovo, and Dell. Some leaked information suggests a Dell model may serve as a competitor to the MacBook and budget Windows laptops.
