Google updates Android Auto with new media controls and bug fixes

Google is rolling out several updates to Android Auto aimed at improving media playback and fixing long-standing interface bugs. Key enhancements include expanded media controls that allow users to manage audio from apps without dedicated Android Auto interfaces, including browser-based streams and niche media apps. The update also introduces an optimized media player UI designed to better fit various car display sizes, featuring a new wavy progress bar design that Google has confirmed will remain permanent.

Additional improvements focus on user experience and automation. Users can now swipe to switch between active media sessions more easily, and the autoplay feature has been refined to prevent infrequently used apps from being selected automatically. Google is also addressing a bug that caused cellular signal bars to disappear from the dashboard interface, with a fix currently being distributed via the stable channel.

Furthermore, users may be able to resolve display issues where Android Auto appears blurry on certain infotainment systems by adjusting the video resolution settings to Full HD (1920x1080).
