Google Wallet rolls out vertical card stack redesign

Google is rolling out a significant interface redesign for Google Wallet on Android devices, replacing the traditional horizontal card carousel with a vertically stacked list of saved payment cards.

The new layout allows users to see one full card preview with a sliver of the next card visible. By tapping or swiping down, users can enter an expanded full-screen view to see all saved debit and credit cards at once. This vertical arrangement is intended to improve one-handed smartphone operation, particularly for users with multiple payment methods.

While the redesign aims for better usability, it introduces changes to navigation. Card details and transaction histories are no longer accessed directly through the card itself but have been moved to a new settings gear icon located in the top-right corner of the interface. The update is being deployed via Google's servers, meaning it will appear on devices automatically without requiring a manual app store update.
