Google wearable development hinted at by FCC certification
FCC certification documents for a device with the model number G8BL6 suggest that Google is developing new wearable technology, potentially a successor to the Fitbit Charge series or a new Pixel Watch model.
The filings, submitted by manufacturer Weifang Goertek Electronics, indicate the device features GNSS connectivity for direct GPS tracking, Bluetooth Low Energy, and a metal frame antenna. While the hardware supports Android and shows signs of running Wear OS, the absence of Wi-Fi suggests the device may be a streamlined fitness tracker rather than a full-featured smartwatch.
If the device adopts Wear OS, it would gain integration with Google services such as Google Maps, Google Pay, and Google Fit. However, transitioning to a more robust operating system could impact the long battery life typically associated with the Fitbit Charge line.
