Google Meet introduces Quick Notes and hardware occupancy tracking
Google is rolling out several updates to its Workspace ecosystem, most notably a new feature for Google Meet called ‘Quick Notes’. This tool, which is integrated into the existing ‘Take notes for me’ function, provides a condensed, one-page summary of meetings. These summaries highlight key action items, decisions, and talking points using bullet points and checklists to allow for rapid review. The summary appears as the default tab in the generated Google Doc and is also sent to participants via email. Full, detailed transcriptions remain available in a separate tab for users requiring deeper context.
Regarding administrative controls, new settings will take effect on September 29, 2026. Administrators and end users will gain the ability to configure automatic note-taking so that it only triggers for meetings with three or more participants. This is intended to prevent unnecessary transcriptions in smaller, private calls.
Additionally, Google has introduced occupancy counting for Google Meet on Android-based Logitech Gen 2 room hardware, such as the Logitech Rally Board 65. This feature allows organizations to track meeting room usage to optimize real estate and hardware deployment. Data is processed locally on the device to ensure no personally identifiable information is collected.
