Google Meet feature updates and hardware integration
Overview
Google is updating Google Meet with a new feature called ‘Quick Notes’, which enhances the existing ‘Take notes for me’ functionality. This tool generates a condensed, one-page summary of meetings that highlights key action items, decisions, and talking points using bullet points and checklists. These summaries are presented as the default tab in a generated Google Doc and are also distributed to participants via email, while full transcriptions remain available in a separate tab.
To improve privacy and administrative control, new settings effective September 29, 2026, allow administrators and users to configure the tool to trigger only for meetings with three or more participants, thereby avoiding automatic transcription of private one-on-one calls. The feature is available to Google Workspace users and those with specific Gmail subscriptions for Google AI Pro or Ultra.
Additionally, Google has introduced occupancy counting for Google Meet on Android-based Logitech Gen 2 room hardware, such as the Logitech Rally Board 65. This allows organizations to track meeting room usage for real estate and hardware optimization, with data processed locally to protect personally identifiable information.
