Gorakhpur police encounter leads to arrest of two chain snatchers

A police encounter in the Cantt area of Gorakhpur resulted in the arrest of two suspected chain snatchers on Sunday night. During the confrontation, both suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs after they allegedly opened fire on the police team.

One police officer, Bhupendra Yadav, was also injured during the exchange of gunfire and has been admitted to a district hospital for treatment. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajay, also known as Mangru, and Sanjay. According to police reports, Ajay has seven previous criminal cases registered against him, while Sanjay has 11.

Authorities recovered two stolen chains, a motorcycle, a country-made pistol, and ammunition from the suspects. The police stated that the duo had been involved in multiple recent incidents, including two specific chain snatching cases reported in July.
