Police encounters and arrests in northern India

Police in northern India have conducted several encounters with suspects involved in various crimes, including chain snatching, jewelry theft, and armed disturbances.

In Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, a police confrontation in the Cantt area led to the arrest of two suspected chain snatchers, Ajay and Sanjay. During the exchange of gunfire, both suspects sustained leg wounds, and one officer, Bhupendra Yadav, was injured. Authorities recovered stolen chains, a motorcycle, and a pistol.

Subsequent operations across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand saw similar outcomes. In Ghaziabad, two suspects were apprehended following a shootout near a school; one suspect, identified as Aman, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. In Jhansi, police intercepted individuals involved in jewelry theft, including a suspect named Brijendra, resulting in a confrontation where one individual was shot in the leg.

In Haryana, a CIA-1 team engaged in a shootout with two suspects in Kurukshetra following a robbery at an advocate’s residence. During an exchange of approximately seven rounds of gunfire, the suspects were shot in the legs. Police previously recovered 15 lakh rupees and jewelry related to this case.

In Uttarakhand, Dehradun police arrested a suspect identified as Akash, also known as ‘Tamancha’, following an encounter in the Basant Vihar area. Wanted for chain snatching, the suspect was shot in the leg after firing at police during a vehicle check. Authorities recovered a stolen scooter, a stolen chain, and a firearm. Additionally, five people were detained in Udham Singh Nagar after video footage of them brandishing weapons went viral.
