Goran Minchev announces North Macedonia state administration reforms
Goran Minchev, the Minister of Public Administration, has announced a plan to rationalize the state administration in North Macedonia by merging or abolishing redundant institutions. Minchev stated that recent changes to the Inspection Supervision Law have already saved approximately 300,000 euros by eliminating certain official positions while retaining professional civil servants.
The next phase involves a new Law on the Organization and Work of State Administration. This law aims to categorize state bodies and their responsibilities more precisely, followed by an analysis of whether certain institutions are justified. Minchev noted instances of institutions having directors and boards but only a single employee, performing tasks identical to other agencies. The reform may require aligning 20 to 30 different laws, with parliamentary procedures expected to conclude by December 31.
Separately, Minchev commented on the internal crisis within the SDSM political party. He suggested that the party needs to return to its original social democratic and state-building values. He noted that while some members are currently calling for leadership changes, many of those critics were active participants in previous administrations that implemented the policies they now criticize.
