Goran Vesić faces asset inspection by Anti-Corruption Agency

The Anti-Corruption Agency has launched an extraordinary inspection of the assets of former Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure, Goran Vesić. The agency stated the review is based on reports submitted by Vesić in relation to specific circumstances and events, noting that such inspections can be initiated whenever there is suspicion that an official has failed to report accurate data regarding assets and income.

Vesić was the minister in office during the November 1, 2024, collapse of a canopy at the Novi Sad railway station, an incident that resulted in 16 deaths. He is among those facing charges related to that event.

Additionally, the Prosecution for Organized Crime has launched an investigation against Vesić and 13 others. They are accused of financial malfeasance regarding the Novi Sad-Kelebija railway reconstruction project, which allegedly caused $115 million in damages to the state budget. Reports also indicate discrepancies in Vesić’s asset declarations, including a high-value apartment in Vračar previously owned by his brother.
